Hot Springs, Arkansas is one of those places that surprises people. Most visitors expect a quiet spa town and leave having discovered horse racing, off-road trails, world-class fishing, a genuine gangster history, and one of the most walkable historic downtowns in the South. From Flint Rock Cabins in Lonsdale, you're 20 minutes from all of it — close enough to spend a full day exploring, far enough to come back to real quiet every evening.

Here's what we recommend to our guests, organized by how you like to spend your time.

🏇 Oaklawn Racetrack & Casino Resort

Oaklawn is the anchor of Hot Springs tourism for good reason. Live thoroughbred horse racing runs from December through May, and the casino operates year-round. Even if you've never watched a race in your life, an afternoon at Oaklawn is genuinely entertaining — there's something about a live race that gets everyone invested. General admission is free. The dining options on site are solid, and the energy on a race day is unlike anything else in central Arkansas.

🛁 Historic Bathhouse Row

Bathhouse Row is the heart of Hot Springs National Park — eight stunning bathhouses built between 1892 and 1923, most of which have been restored and repurposed. The Fordyce Bathhouse serves as the park's visitor center and is free to tour. The Quapaw Baths & Spa still operates as a working bathhouse where you can soak in the natural thermal waters that made Hot Springs famous. The Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa also offers thermal bath experiences. Walking the Row itself is free and gives you a genuine sense of the city's remarkable history.

🔫 The Gangster Museum of America

Hot Springs has a genuinely wild history as a wide-open gambling town protected by corrupt local government — Al Capone and other notorious figures spent time here during Prohibition. The Gangster Museum tells that story entertainingly and in detail. It's a small museum but well done, and it reframes the entire downtown in a way that makes the architecture and history make much more sense. Plan about 90 minutes.
